Deportivo Alavés was founded on January 23th, 1921 in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Álava, Basque Country) and the club has been representing the historical territory of Alava-Araba through football nearly 100 years. Although originally back in 1920 was called Sport Friend’s Club, it was in January 1921 when it came to be known by its current name: Deportivo Alavés.

Since its foundation, the character of this land steeps the values of the club. Throughout its history, the ‘Albiazul’ supporters have shown themselves to be unconditional by nature, suffering at the worst moments, filled with pride at the best. Cheering with passion, but always with respect. With only one demand to those who have carried his shield on their chest: see themselves reflected in the behavior, sacrifice, dedication and commitment, aspiring to the highest but from humility.

The entity, which is currently presided over by Alfonso Fernández de Trocóniz, has accumulated 15 campaigns in the Spanish top league. In addition, it has participated in the UEFA Cup on two occasions (2000/01 and 2002/03), reaching the final in the first of its participations.
